I have been using an entry-level pair of generic non-moulded IEM’s from a very reputable brand for the last 5-6 years. I’m a working musician using my IEM’s anywhere between 6 – 15 hours per week and I’ve felt for a while that my current pair were a weak spot in my rig.
At the end of 2023 I decided it was time to buy myself a Christmas present, and settled on the Westone Audio ES10’s from Pacific Ears. The level of service I got during the order process was awesome, and it was super easy to stop in at my local audiologist to get my impressions made. A few weeks later, my IEM’s arrived on the doorstep – perfect timing on the day of a gig!
I’ve used them for two gigs over the weekend, one with a lot of concrete and glass (indoors) and another afternoon outdoor gig – two very different audio environments – and what I can say at this point is, my mind is blown at the quality of audio I’m experiencing. So clear, so separate, and so detailed at either low or high volume. Using the ES10’s has absolutely made me a better musician overnight, because I can hear and react to so much more detail, and I can hear my bandmates so much clearer. I also found there was so much less messing around with levels to get a good mix in my ears – the mix just sounded great from the start.
Only one other band member is using custom-moulded IEM’s at present, but the way I’m raving about mine at set-up, every break, and at pack-down I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the whole band before long! Haha!
